On February 25, 2025, at about 10:45 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Ala Ilima street prior to Ala Napunani Street in the Salt Lake area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 64-year-old male motorist was having mechanical issues with his vehicle. The 64-year-old motorist then exited his vehicle to address the issue.

The 64-year-old male then told his 33-year-old female passenger to sit in the driver seat and to engage the brakes. While engaging the brake, it malfunctioned at which time the vehicle then rolled forward and ran over the 64-year-old male.

As the result of the collision the 64-year-old male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

This is the 11th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 5 at this same time in 2024.
