On March 14, 2021, at about 10:05 P.M., there was a fatal pedestrian motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Nimitz Highway and Waikamilo Road in the Kalihi area.
A 66-year-old Wahiawa female was traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway prior to Waikamilo Road when she struck a male bicyclist/pedestrian a 54-year-old male who was crossing Nimitz Highway outside of a marked crosswalk.
The 66-year-old Wahiawa female did not flee the scene and immediately called 911 for assistance.
At the time of the collision the weather was clear.
As a result of the collision, the 54-year-old male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, neither speed, alcohol, or drugs appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 13th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 9 at the same time last year.
The investigation is ongoing.
