On January 1, 2026, at about 8:50 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred at the intersection area of Coral Sea Road and Roosevelt Avenue in the Kalaeloa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 33-year-old male motorist and his 24-year-ol male passenger was traveling northbound on Coral Sea Road at a high rate of speed when he traveled to the right of the roadway near the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and collided into a fence.
As a result of the collision, the 33-year-old male motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 24-year-old male passenger was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
This is the 1st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 0 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
