On Sunday, February 27, 2022, at about 7:00 p.m., a Major Motor Vehicle Collision occurred in the Waikiki area, involving two pedestrians.

A 34 year old female pedestrian carrying her 1 year old daughter, attempted to cross the north-most crosswalk on Kanekapolei Street. While crossing from the east to west direction, the pedestrians were struck by a Honda MPVH traveling east on Kuhio Avenue and made a left turn onto Kanekapolei Street.

The 21 year old male operator of the Honda vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene.

The 34 year old pedestrian was initially transported to an area hospital in “Critical” condition. While at the hospital, her condition was upgraded to “Serious” condition. Her 1 year old daughter was also taken to an area hospital and was said to be in “Good” condition.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors.

This investigation is ongoing.
