On December 27, 2022, at about 03:59 AM, a hit and run motor vehicle collision, involving a bicyclist occurred on Kamehameha Highway near Waipio Uka Street in the Waipahu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 47-year-old adult male bicyclist was traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway, when he was struck head on by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway. The unknown vehicle continued northbound on Kamehameha Highway, then made a U-turn and fled the scene in the southbound direction without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 47-year-old male bicycle rider was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 47-year-old male bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors of this collision.
