On August 27, 2025, at about 4:00 AM, a serious motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Kapiolani Boulevard near Pensacola Street in the Ala Moana area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an HPD Police Officer was traveling southbound on Pensacola Street with his blue pilot light illuminated, when he disregarded the red traffic signal at the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard, and collided into a 25-year-old male moped operator who was traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 25-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The HPD Police Officer remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs are a contributing factor of this collision.
