On December 16, 2025, at about 10:54 A.M., a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on University Avenue in the University area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unidentified male motorist was traveling eastbound on Coyne Street, when he executed a left turn onto University Avenue northbound, and struck a 43-year-old male pedestrian, who was walking in a marked crosswalk with the walk signal illuminated. The unidentified male motorist continued traveling northbound on University Avenue without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 43-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
