On October 20, 2022, at about 7:40 PM, a serious hit and run motor vehicle collision occurred involving a pick up truck and a moped.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 2004 Chevrolet pick up truck, operated by a 42 year old male, was headed east on South King Street and collided into a 2020 Yongfu moped, operated by a 56 year old male, that had entered South King Street from a business driveway.
The collision caused the moped operator to be ejected onto the pavement where he sustained substantial bodily injuries. He was taken to an area hospital where he was listed as being in serious condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The Chevrolet pick up truck did not stop after the collision, and continued eastbound on South King Street.
The Chevrolet pick up truck and the male operator was located a short time later and the male was placed under arrest.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.
