On July 30, 2026, at about 1:45 PM, a Non Traffic motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the private parking lot of a shopping plaza in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 57-year-old female motorist was reversing out of a marked stall within the private parking lot of a business when it struck a 65-year-old female pedestrian.
As a result of the collision, the 65-year-old female pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 57-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs are a factor.
This is the 3rd Non-Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 0 at this same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
