On May 26, 2026, at about 6:30 AM, a Non Traffic motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the private parking lane of a business in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 55-year-old male motorist was attempting to park in a private parking lane adjacent to a business when it struck a 59-year-old male pedestrian who was laying on the roadway within the parking lane.
As a result of the collision, the 59-year-old male pedestrian was transported to an area hospital in good condition.
The 55-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
On June 4, 2026, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 59-year-old male pedestrian involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time, speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
This is the 2nd Non Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 0 at this same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
