UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
On Monday, August 22, 2022, at about 1:05 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kahuku area involving two vehicles. The collision resulted in two fatalities.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a Ford truck driven by a 27 year old male, was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway. As the Ford truck weaved in and out of traffic to bypass vehicles, it crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a Hyundai sedan traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Ford truck was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 55 year old female driver of the Hyundai sedan was taken to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and died. Her 62 year old male rear-seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30 year old female who was seated in the front passenger seat of the Hyundai sedan, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Speed appeared to be a factor in this collision. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors.
This was the 31st and 32nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 33 at this same time last year.
