On October 3, 2024, at about 3:28 AM, a fatal hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on North Kuakini Street in the Kalihi area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unidentified older model white pickup truck was traveling eastbound on North Kuakini Street and struck a 51-year-old male pedestrian that was lying in the roadway.

The unidentified motorist continued traveling eastbound on North Kuakini Street without stopping to render aid or provide information.

As a result of the collision, the 51-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are contributing factors in this collision.

This is the 36th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 42 during this time in 2023.
