On August 19, 2025, at about 8:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a single moped occurred on Sierra Drive south of Mikahala Way, in the Kaimuki area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 34-year-old moped operator was traveling southbound on Sierra Drive when he failed to negotiate a left turn and collided with the curb causing the 34-year-old moped operator to be ejected onto a private concrete driveway. 

As a result of the collision, the 34-year-old moped operator was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. 

The 34-year-old moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. 

At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs are a contributing factor of this collision.
