UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
**Update**
On August 24, 2022, the Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the motorcyclist involved in this collision succumbed to his injuries and died.
This is the 33rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 33 at this same time last year.
This investigation is ongoing.
On August 20, 2022, at about 11:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a motorcyclist occurred in the area of Kalanianaole Highway and Kamehameha Highway.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 34-year-old adult male motorist was traveling southbound on Kalanianaole Highway approaching the intersection with Kamehameha Highway when the motorcyclist lost control and skid into the grass median, ejecting the operator.
As a result of the collision, the 34-year-old male motorcyclist was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 34-year-old male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time it appears that speed was a contributing factor of this collision.
It is unknown if alcohol, or drugs were contributing factors.
