On July 27, 2022, at about 3:32 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a single motor vehicle, occurred in the area of the H2 Freeway northbound, at the Ka Uka Boulevard off-ramp in the Waipio area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 23-year-old adult male motorist was traveling northbound on the H2 Freeway when he veered right onto the grassy shoulder, into a ditch, and collided into the guardrail of the off-ramp.
As a result of the collision, the 23-year-old male motorist had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Honolulu Fire Department and was subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 23-year-old male male motorist was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol is a contributing factor in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
