On April, 28, 2026, at about 1:25 AM a critical motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred on Kunia Road south of Kunia Drive, in the Kunia area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 24-year-old female motorist was traveling southbound on Kunia Road when, it traveled into the northbound lane and off the roadway into the brush, where it struck multiple rock boulders and a cattle gate, before it continued traveling forward into an open field where it overturned multiple times.
The 24-year-old female motorist was extracted by officers before the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
As a result of the collision, the 24-year-old female motorist was transported to an area hospital in serious condition where she was later listed critical condition.
The 24-year-old female motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision
At this time, speed and alcohol appear to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs are a factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
