*****ORIGINAL*****

On April 20, 2022, at about 2:13 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the Hauula area. It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 59-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway, when a 45-year-old male pedestrian appeared in the roadway. The 59-year-old male motorist was unable to stop his vehicle in time and collided into the 45-year-old male pedestrian who was not in a marked crosswalk.

As a result of the collision, the 45-year-old male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 59-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.

At this time, neither speed, alcohol, nor drugs appear to be a contributing factor in the collision on the part of the 59-year-old male motorist. It is unknown if they are factors on the part of the 45-year-old male pedestrian.
