On January 1, 2023, at about 2:20 AM, a critical hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Lumiauau Street and Kamehmahe Highway the Waikele area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 17-year-old male pedestrian was laying in the roadway on Lumiauau Street when he was struck by an unknown motorist who has yet to be identified.

The unknown motorist was last seen traveling westbound on Lumiauau Street, operating a dark-colored vehicle with dark tint.

As a result of the collision, the 17-year-old male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and is in critical condition.
