On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at about 0651 hours, a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Nohohale Street, involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.
A motorcycle operated by a 32-year-old male was traveling Southbound on Makakilo Drive in the number two lane at a high rate of speed, negotiating a bend in the roadway. The motorcycle operator swerved to the number one lane to avoid a vehicle stopped in traffic to allow a pedestrian to cross in an unmarked crosswalk.
The motorcycle observed a vehicle also stopped in the number one lane to allow the pedestrian to cross. The motorcycle operator was unable to stop laid his motorcycle down and collided with the rear of a Chevrolet driven by a 43-year-old male.
The operator of the Chevrolet vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene. The male operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and was ejected from his motorcycle upon impact. The male was transported to Queens hospital in critical condition with possible internal injuries.
Speed was a factor on the part of the motorcycle. Alcohol and Drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision.
This investigation is on-going.
