On September 27, 2023, at about 6:43 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on Kaukonahua Road in the Wahiawa area. 

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 35-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kaukonahua Road when for unknown reasons he traveled off of the roadway onto the shoulder of the road and collided with a guard rail. The 35-year-old male motorist then traveled back onto the roadway and into the southbound lanes of Kaukonahua Road and collided head on with a 46-year old male motorist.

As a result of the collision, the 35-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 46-year-old male motorist suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision but refused medical treatment at the scene.

At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
