On October 5, 2021, at about 9:00 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road and Kolowaka Drive in the Ewa Beach area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 29-year-old Honolulu male motorist was traveling northbound on Fort Weaver Road. Upon approaching the intersection of Fort Weaver Road and Kolowaka Drive, the 29-year-old Honolulu male motorist disregarded a red traffic signal and collided head-on with a 63-year-old Mililani male motorist and his four passengers, a 35-year-old male, a 33-year-old female, and two juvenile children all from the mainland who were traveling southbound on Fort Weaver Road turning onto Kolowaka Drive.
As a result of the collision, the 29-year-old male motorist had to be extricated from his vehicle.
The 29-year-old Honolulu male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 63-year-old Mililani male motorist and his four passengers were taken to an area hospital in good condition.
At this time, alcohol appears to be a contributing factor. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs were a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
