On October 15, 2023, at about 2:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred on Hamakua Drive in the Kailua area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 51-year old male motorcyclist was heading westbound on Hamakua Drive when he side swiped an unoccupied parked vehicle. The motorcyclist continued westbound and rear-ended another parked vehicle, that was occupied by a 30-year old male motorist; that parked vehicle was pushed forward into another unoccupied parked vehicle.
As a result of the collision the 51-year old motorcyclist was transported from the scene to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 51-year old motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
The 30-year old motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of this collision.
At this time drugs or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision. Speed may be a contributing factor in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
