On Sunday, October 30, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a major motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kailua area, involving a vehicle and a moped.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a yellow Zhong moped, operated by a female whose identity is yet to be determined, was traveling eastbound on Kalanianaole Highway.  At approximately 1/10 mile prior to Kanapuu Drive, the moped was rear-ended by a silver colored Chevrolet pickup truck. 

The 42 year old male operator of the Chevrolet truck was not injured and remained at the scene.

The operator of the moped was not wearing a helmet.  She was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be factors in this collision.

This investigation is ongoing.
