UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at about 12:18 p.m., a Toyota MPVH, driven by a 47 year old male, was traveling westbound on Meheula Parkway. As the Toyota MPVH slowed to turn right into the driveway entrance to the Mililani High School, it was struck by a Zhong moped that tried to over-take on the right of the Toyota MPVH.
The driver of the Toyota MPVH was not injured and remained at the scene.
The 76 year old male operator of the moped was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. While at the hospital, his condition worsened and was listed in critical condition.
It was unknown if speed was a factor in this collision. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors.
On September 15, 2022, at about 6:26 p.m., the 76 year old male operator of the moped succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This was the 37th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 34 at this same time in 2021.
This investigation is ongoing.
