On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at about 6:17 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred in the Waialae area involving a vehicle and a moped.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a Subaru sedan operated by a 48 year old male, was traveling westbound on Waialae Avenue. As the Subaru sedan turned left at the intersection with 16th Avenue, it struck a Genuine moped that was traveling eastbound on Waialae Avenue.

The operator of the Subaru sedan was not injured and remained at the scene.

The 21 year old female operator of the moped was not wearing a helmet. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be factors in this collision.

This investigation is ongoing.
