On October 19, 2024, at about 3:18 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped and a vehicle occurred at the intersection of South King Street and Isenberg Street, in the University area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department that a 59-year-old male moped operator was traveling southbound on Isenberg Street when he disregarded a displayed red traffic signal and entered into the intersection of Isenberg Street and South King Street and was broadsided by 18-year-old female motorist, who was traveling eastbound on South King Street and had the right of way.

As a result of the collision the 59-year-old male moped operator was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, and the 19-year-old female motorist sustained minor injuries and, while at the scene, refused further treatment.

The 59-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
