***ORIGINAL***

On September 29, 2024, at about 2:55 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a single motor vehicle, occurred on Fort Weaver Road, north of Laulaunui Street in the Ewa Beach area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 29-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Fort Weaver Road at a high rate of speed. As the male motorist traveled pass the intersection of Laulaunui Street, he loss control of his vehicle and swerved right onto the unimproved shoulder of the roadway, where his vehicle then went airborne and collided into a tree. After colliding into the tree, the male’s vehicle overturned numerous times and struck a street sign before coming to a final rest.

Post collision, the 29-year-old male motorist was extricated from his vehicle by bystanders at the scene. The male was later transported to an area hospital in critical condition by Emergency Medical Services.

The male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

At this time speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs and alcohol are factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
