On 12-9-22, the Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the pedestrian in this collision succumbed to his injuries and died.
This is the 51st traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 42 at this same time last year.
On November 26, 2022, at about 6:15 PM, a critical hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Mokuola Street and Hikimoe Street in the Waipahu Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 57-year-old male pedestrian attempted to cross Mokuola Street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by an unknown motorist who has yet to be identified.
The unknown motorist continued northbound on Mokuola Street, fleeing the scene of the collision.
The unknown motorist was possibly operating a dark-colored sedan.
As a result of the collision, the 57-year-old male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
