On June 14, 2025, at about 1:31 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a pedestrian, occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 18-year-old male motorist and his passenger, an 18-year-old female, was traveling westbound on Kamehameha Highway when he crossed into the eastbound lane and continued onto the eastbound shoulder, where it collided with a traffic sign and a 20-year-old male pedestrian, who was standing on the shoulder next to an unoccupied vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old male pedestrian was pinned between the vehicle driven by the 18-year-old male motorist and the unoccupied vehicle.
The 20-year-old male pedestrian was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 18-year-old male motorist remained at the scene. The 18-year-old male motorist and his 18-year-old female passenger were not injured.
At this time speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
