On June 8, 2025, at about 12:30 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a single moped, occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Aiea area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 54-year-old male moped rider was traveling eastbound on Kamehameha Highway when he lost control, struck the left curb on the center median, then struck a chain-link fence, and was ejected onto the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 54-year-old male was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 54-year-old male was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, alcohol appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
