On June 7, 2025, at about 2:05 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, occurred on the H-3 Freeway inside the Harano Tunnel in the Halawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 71-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on the H-3 Freeway in the Harano Tunnel when it rear ended a 49-year-old male motorist operating a large dump truck, which was also traveling westbound.
As a result of the collision, the 71-year-old female motorist was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. The 71-year-old female motorist was then transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 49-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and neither he or his 59-year-old female passenger were injured.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
