On November 5, 2022, at about 12:05 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a vehicle and a moped, occurred on Kalanian’ole Highway in the Hawaii Kai area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 44-year-old adult male motorist, traveling westbound on Kalaniana’ole Highway, collided into the rear-end of a 48-year-old adult male moped rider, who was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Kalaniana’ole Highway and Hawaii Kai Drive.
As a result of the collision, the 48-year-old male moped rider was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 44-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol is a contributing factor in this collision.
