On October 12, 2022, at about 7:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a moped occurred at the intersection of Wilder Avenue and Makiki Street in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 31-year-old female motorist was traveling eastbound on Wilder Avenue, attempting to make a turn onto Makiki Street while in the intersection when she collided with a 20-year-old female moped rider who was traveling westbound on Wilder Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old female moped rider was ejected from the moped onto the roadway and subsequently taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 20-year-old female moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 31-year-old female motorist was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
