***ORIGINAL***

On March 28, 2025, at about 7:53 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a skateboarder occurred at the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Palailai Street in the Makakilo area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 38-year-old male skateboarder was traveling southbound on Makakilo Drive when he struck the vehicle of a 25-year-old female motorist who was at a stop in the southbound lanes of Makakilo Drive before Palailai Street.

As a result of the initial collision, the 38-year-old male skateboarder lost control and traveled into the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Palailai Street and was struck in a secondary collision by a 65-year-old male motorist who was traveling northbound on Makakilo Drive making a left turn from Makakilo Drive onto Palailai Street with the right of way.

As a result of the collision, the 38-year-old male skateboarder was ejected onto the roadway.

The 38-year-old male skateboarder was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 38-year-old male skateboarder was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The 65-year-old male motorist and the 25-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and were not injured.
