On July 24, 2022, at about 2:15 PM., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the University area, involving a Scooter and a vehicle.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 77 year old male on a Vespa Scooter, was headed west on S. King Street when he attempted to change into the lane to his right. The Scooter collided into a Tesla that was already occupying that lane. At the time of the collision, the Tesla was being operated by an 80 year old male with a 78 year old female passenger.
The operator of the scooter was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The occupants of the Tesla were not injured.
At this time, speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in this collision.
This investigation is on going.
