On June 24, 2022, at about 3:44 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a vehicle and a delivery truck, occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 26-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on Kamehameha Highway, when he collided into the rear end of a 47-year-old male motorist that was stopped in the roadway due to road construction and the traffic contra-flow.
As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old male motorist and his 22-year-old female passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Honolulu Fire Department.
The 26-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 22-year-old female passenger was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 47-year-old male motorist was not injured as a result of the collision and remained at the scene.
At this time, it appears that alcohol may be a contributing factor on the part of the 26-year-old-male motorist. It is unknown whether speed or drugs is a factor. Neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor on the part of the 47-year-old male motorist.
The investigation is ongoing.
