On April 30, 2022, at about 1:37 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a vehicle and a moped rider, occurred in the area of Nuuanu Avenue and N. Pauahi Street in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 19-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on N. Pauahi Street, when she disregarded a stop sign and entered into the intersection of Nuuanu Avenue, causing a 62-year-old male moped rider, traveling southbound on Nuuanu Avenue, to broadside the front passenger side area of her vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the 62-year-old male moped rider was take to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 62-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 19-year-old female motorist was not injured as a result of the collision and remained at the scene.
At this time, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor on the part of the 19-year-old female motorist. It is unknown whether speed is a factor.
It is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs is a contributing factor on the part of the 62-year-old male moped rider.
The investigation is ongoing.
