On March 1, 2025, at about 11:29 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a moped, occurred on Kalihi Street in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 56 year-old motorist was traveling northbound on Kalihi Street and for unknown reasons crossed over into the southbound lane and collided into a utility pole. The 56 year-old motorist then reversed in a fence and then drove southbound on Kalihi Street where he then collided into a parked vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the 56 year-old motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition where he was subsequently listed in critical condition.
The 56 year-old motorist was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
