On February 18, 2022, at approximately 5:50 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred in the Iwilei area involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
A Jeep multi-purpose vehicle, operated by a 30 year old male, approached a 4-way stop at the intersection of Iwilei Road and Sumner Street. After coming to a complete stop, the Jeep proceeded thru the intersection.
A 45 year old male riding a bicycle failed to stop at the 4-way stop and initiated a turn in the path of the Jeep. The operator of the Jeep was unable to avoid the bicyclist and collided into him, causing critical injuries to the bicycle rider.
The bicyclist was transported by EMS to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed, alcohol, and/or drugs, do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
