On November 27, 2021, at about 3:30 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on Kailua Road just before Hamakua Drive in the Kailua area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 23-year-old Kailua male and a 22-year-old Kailua male were both occupants in a vehicle traveling eastbound on Kailua Road at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached Hamakua Drive, the vehicle drove atop the grass center median and struck several palm trees.
