On January 15, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 59-year-old male motorcyclist involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 4th Traffic Fatality of 2025 as compared to 1 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation remains on-going.

On January 8, 2025, at about 09:41 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist and a sedan occurred on Ala Wai Boulevard near the intersection of McCully Street in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 59-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Ala Wai Boulevard when he was struck by a 53-year-old male motorist. The 53-year-old motorist was also traveling westbound on Ala Wai Boulevard and was changing lanes when the collision occurred.
As a result of the collision, the male motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 53-year-old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene.
The 59-year-old male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
