On September 1, 2026, at about 12:59 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Fort Weaver Road in the Ewa Beach area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 57-year-old male moped operator was traveling westbound on Renton Road when it disregarded the red traffic signal as it executed a left turn at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road, and was struck by a 29-year-old male motorist that was traveling southbound on Fort Weaver Road.
As a result of the collision, the 57-year-old male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 57-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 29-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol is a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
