On July 21, 2026, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 45-year-old adult male E-motorcyclist involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

This is the 25th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 46 at the same time in 2025.

On July 18, 2026, at about 11:50 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving an E-Motorcycle occurred on Punahou Street in the Makiki area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 65-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Punahou Street when it executed an illegal U-turn at the intersection of Clark Street and struck a 45-year-old male E-motorcyclist, that was traveling northbound on Punahou Street, in the southbound lanes against the flow of traffic.

As a result of the collision, the 45-year-old male E-motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition. 

The 45-year-old male E-motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. 

The 65-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision. 

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol is a contributing factor of this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
