On July 20, 2026, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 41-year-old male moped rider involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

This is the 24th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 46 at the same time in 2025.

The investigation remains ongoing.

On July 17, 2026, at about 11:00 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Farrington Highway in the Maili area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 44-year-old female motorist and her 28-year-old female passenger were traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway when she executed a left turn onto Kaukamana Street, and struck a 41-year-old male moped operator who was traveling westbound on Farrington Highway with no illuminated headlights.

As a result of the collision, the 41-year-old male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 41-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The 44-year-old female motorist and her 28-year-old female passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol are a contributing factor of this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
