On May 2, 2026, at about 12:20 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a moped, occurred on Wilder Avenue in the Makiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, a 17-year-old female motorist with a 19-year-old female front passenger and 18-year-old male rear passenger, were traveling eastbound on Wilder Avenue when she initiated a left turn onto Makiki Street, and struck a 23-year-old male moped operator who was traveling westbound on Wilder Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the 23-year-old male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 23-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 17-year-old female motorist, 19-year-old female front passenger, and 18-year-old male rear passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
