On May 1, 2026, at about 4:26 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on South Beretania Street in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 85-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on South Beretania Street near Victoria Street when he struck a 68-year-old male pedestrian, who was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 68-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 85-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
