On April 12, 2026, at about 11:00 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred near the intersection of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapahulu Avenue in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 48-year-old female motorist was traveling eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue, when she executed a left turn at the intersection of Kapahulu Avenue and struck a 20-year-old female pedestrian who was crossing Kapahulu Avenue within a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old female pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition and was later listed in critical condition.
The 48-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
