On March 17, 2026, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 59-year-old male motorist involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 12th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 18 at the same time in 2025

On March 17, 2026, at about 07:10 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a City Bus occurred on North Vineyard Boulevard in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 59-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound when, for unknown reasons, he lost control, traveled into the center median, and collided with a tree, where it came to rest.
As a result of the collision, the 59-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 59-year-old motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
