On February 20, 2025, at about 3:37 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a moped, occurred on Royal Hawaiian Avenue in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 25-year-old male moped operator and his 53-year-old male passenger were traveling southbound on Royal Hawaiian Avenue near the intersection of Kalakaua Avenue, when the 25-year-old male moped operator rear ended a 49-year-old male motorist and his 29-year-old female passenger.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old male moped operator and his 53-year-old male passenger were ejected onto the roadway and transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 25-year-old male moped operator and his 53-year-old male passenger were not wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
The 49-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of this collision, but his 29-year-old female passenger was transported to an area hospital in good condition.
At this time speed, alcohol, or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
