On September 21, 2025, at about 12:48 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on the H-1 East Freeway in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 25-year-old male pedestrian was standing on the guardrail of the Kalihi Street overpass and attempting to descend back to roadway when the 25-year-old male pedestrian slipped and fell backwards onto the H-1 eastbound freeway below, where the 25-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a 34-year-old female motorist and then struck again by a 68-year-old female motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old male pedestrian was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition where his condition deteriorated and he was later listed in critical condition.
Both the 34-year-old female motorist and the 68-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
