On September 8, 2025, at about 3:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a bicycle occurred on Fort Barrette Road in the Kapolei area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 55-year-old female motorist was traveling southbound on Fort Barrette Road when she struck a 48-year-old female bicyclist who traveled into her path attempting to cross the roadway from the southbound shoulder to the northbound side of Fort Barrette Road.
As a result of the collision, the 48-year-old female bicyclist was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 48-year-old female bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 55-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, alcohol, nor drugs appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
