On August 30, 2025, at about 12:02 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a pedestrian, occurred on Farrington Highway in the Maili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 21-year-old female pedestrian was in the crosswalk, with the Do Not Walk sign illuminated, on Farrington Highway eastbound at the intersection of Kaukamana Street, when she was struck by a 17-year-old male motorist, who was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway.
As a result of the collision, the 21-year-old female was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition, where her condition deteriorated, and she was later listed in critical condition.
The 17-year-old male motorist and his 17-year-old male passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if drugs, or alcohol are a contributing factor of this collision. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
